Pupil Premium funding to boost your secondary students’ personal development
The Pupil Premium funding scheme for schools was introduced in 2011, and has proven effective in narrowing the attainment gap between disadvantaged students and those who, academically, are considered middle to high attainers. The additional funding from the Pupil Premium can help to identify and minimise the additional challenges that disadvantaged teenagers generally face, so they can reach their potential at school, and set them on the right path for adulthood.
This additional funding is available for all mainstream schools and academies, and it is the responsibility of the school leaders to assess their students’ needs and determine how the Pupil Premium should be spent. More and more schools are taking a wider approach to the use of their Pupil Premium, with less of a focus on academic support, and more on social and emotional wellbeing, working towards reaching their Ofsted personal development targets.
Invest in your students’ future
Schools with students who are eligible for Pupil Premium can use a small portion – typically just 1-2% – of the funding to integrate Persona Life Skills into their student wellbeing programme.
By investing in the Persona Life Skills e-learning web app, you will enable your students to benefit from detailed social, practical and memorable personality insights, so they can identify and work to their strengths, and pinpoint growth areas. They will build 22 life skills in areas such as resilience, open-mindedness and communication, on a personalised basis, setting them up for a brighter future.
Improve learning outcomes
Your secondary school students can use their Persona Life Skills profile to better understand their personal learning style, so they can retain information more easily, communicate more effectively, and improve their learning outcomes. As a teacher, you can also use Persona’s insights to adapt and develop your teaching style to better suit your students, as part of more targeted academic support.
Work towards Ofsted personal development targets
Investing a small proportion of your Pupil Premium in Persona Life Skills can benefit both eligible as well as non-eligible pupils, improving their wellbeing and personal development, and helping your school to reach your Ofsted or ISI personal development targets. The Persona Life Skills web app develops your students across six important skillsets:

These life skills will stay with them, and prove indispensable as they progress to adulthood. They will help with future wellbeing, setting students up for success, whatever direction in life they choose to take.
