There is a lot of talk about social-emotional learning (SEL) and wellbeing as we re-imagine education coming out of the global pandemic. Good SEL impacts positively on wellbeing, academic achievement and employability. We know that employers highly prize metacognitive skills such as resilience, adaptability, and teamwork. Over the last few years, social-emotional skills have been rising on the education agenda. Policy makers and education practitioners are seeking ways to complement the focus on academic learning. Social-emotional skills are essential for students to be able to succeed at school, at work and fully participate in society as active citizens.

On 7-Sep-21 the OECD published its Survey of Social and Emotional Skills, Beyond Academic Learning, one of the first international efforts to collect data from students, parents and teachers on the social and emotional skills of students at ages 10 and 15. The report describes students’ social and emotional skills and how they relate to individual, family, and school characteristics. It sheds light on ways to help education leaders monitor and foster students’ social and emotional skills. This webinar will explore the report’s findings and its implications for the future of education.
