A structured social-emotional skills framework to help students navigate their life journey.

With Pearson, we defined 22 social-emotional Life Skills, across six Skillsets and three Levels. These skills empower young people to make better decisions and achieve more positive outcomes in life challenges. Our age-appropriate curriculum builds pupils’ Life Skills from age 13, boosting wellbeing, academic success and employability.

The Persona Life Skills map to PSHE Association, UK Relationships & Sex Education (RSE) topics, Ofsted, Independent Schools Inspectorate, CASEL, National Education Policy (India), Cambridge iGCSE, IB Learner Profile, British Schools Overseas, Skills Builder, VIA Character, GL Assessment, Gatsby, Unicef and other benchmarks.

Six skillsets for wellbeing and employability:

Skillset 1 – Being Realistic

 

  • Life skill 1 – Goal-setting: Setting myself achievable goals.
  • Life skill 2 – Stress Management: Managing my stress in different situations.
  • Life skill 3 – Time Management: Managing my time, so I don’t disappoint myself or others.

  • Life skill 4 – Active Listening: Listening to others without interruption, showing I am taking in the information.
  • Life skill 5 – Processing Information: Taking the time to consider what someone is trying to tell me.
  • Life skill 6 – Speaking Formally: Speaking formally to others, eg. giving a presentation or in an interview.
  • Life skill 7 – Speaking Informally: Using the correct language and tone to get myself heard.
  • Life skill 8 – Writing Formally: Using appropriate language and tone when writing formally, eg. a job application.
  • Life skill 9 – Writing Informally: Using appropriate language and tone when writing informally, eg. text message.

  • Life skill 10 – Empathy: Understanding others’ thoughts and feelings and considering their points of view.
  • Life skill 11 – Respect: Being respectful of others, regardless of any difference.
  • Life skill 12 – Willingness to Change: Being willing to change my own thoughts and behaviours.

  • Life skill 13 – Conflict Management: Being able to reduce conflict when there is a disagreement, for the benefit of all.
  • Life skill 14 – Creative Thinking: Being able to see things in different ways to find solutions to problems.
  • Life skill 15 – Critical Thinking: Being able to consider and analyse what I’ve heard, so I can make my own judgement.
  • Life skill 16 – Effective Teamwork: Playing an effective role within a group, in order to achieve a common goal.

  • Life skill 17 – Perseverance: Keeping going, on something worthwhile, even when things get hard.
  • Life skill 18 – Self-confidence: Having trust in myself, regardless of what others may think.
  • Life skill 19 – Staying Positive: Maintaining a positive attitude and believing things will work out well.

  • Life skill 20 – Being Adaptable: Being able to adapt my thinking and communication, to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Life skill 21 – Managing Feelings: Being aware of a range of emotions, and managing how they impact me and others.
