How can a universal approach to Citizenship Education result in an ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted Personal Development rating? We interviewed Helen Blachford, PSCHE lead at Bohunt Education Trust and Chair of Council for the Association for Citizenship Teaching, to find out.
Persona Life Skills is the only personal development platform with personality insights at its heart, where students age 13-19 develop social-emotional life skills to boost their wellbeing and employability.
In the first of a two-part UK secondary school case study blog, Helen talks about Bohunt Education Trust's approach to Citizenship and Personal, Social, Health & Economic (PSHE) education, and how this led to an ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted rating for Personal Development. The Trust aims to develop critical thinkers who are engaged and able to make informed choices when they leave school. Curriculum planning, mapping across all subjects and teacher training are all key success factors.

Where next on our EdTech journey?
As the end of the academic year approaches (in the Northern hemisphere) the workload and stress that teachers and school leaders are under is greater than ever. Prioritising and keeping it simple are key to staying on top of things.
Our online learning platform Persona Life Skills already empowers any non-specialist teacher delivering student personal development or social-emotional learning, with built-in onboarding, videos, PDF resources, real-time contextual guidance, student self-registration and a suggested learning journey.
With over 80 teaching and learning modules now available, and more in the pipeline, we are now setting about designing a Spiral Curriculum to relieve the burden of planning across Years 9-13/Grades 8-12.
This will span contexts and life challenges relevant to each age group:
- Social context, eg. Managing Social Media, for age 13-14
- Learning context, eg. Getting Along With Teachers, for age 15-16
- Work context, eg. First Job, for age 17-18
Register a free account to use the new spiral curriculum with any number of students from next term.
