In the Persona Life Skills social-emotional online learning platform, 'Getting Along With Colleagues' is a new 60 min teacher-facilitated learning module, where students learn why being respectful at work is important, and gain tips for working well with colleagues, through greater self awareness.
This new module is part of a growing library of modules covering different career and work life challenges, including work experience, job choices, and giving presentations, among others.
Students are taken on a journey through considering how their working relationships with colleagues impact their wellbeing and performance. They learn strategies for working effectively with colleagues, each of whom has their own unique mix of personality styles, so they can enjoy working together, and achieve both personal and shared goals.
Questions and activities in this module help students develop three social-emotional life skills, through a personality insights lens:
- Respect – Being respectful of others, regardless of any difference
- Self Awareness – Being aware of my mix of personality styles, including strengths and growth areas
- Willingness to Change – Being willing to change my own thoughts and behaviours
In the 'Get Your Bearings' warm-up, students consider the benefits of getting along with colleagues, and are provided with tips supporting them to do so. They explore the importance of being respectful and positive in their interactions, and being willing to change in order to be an effective team player.
In the 'Explore' knowledge acquisition section, students are encouraged to be aware of their own working preferences, and gain insights into colleagues’ preferred ways of working. They use their knowledge of different personality styles to work out how best to behave and communicate with a diverse team of colleagues.
As students reach the 'Viewpoint' plenary at the end of the module, they are asked to reflect on strategies they could apply in future, to ensure they are well prepared for effective relationships with work colleagues. Students leave the Island with ideas and tips that will help to support their wellbeing and success in their future workplace.
Getting Along With Colleagues is part of the Discovery Islands curriculum – the Persona Life Skills life challenge learning modules. Teachers with a free account can play through this module. A subscription is required to make it available to students.
